Kids' Thermals

Junior adventurers are no different to adults when it comes to thermals - they need a reliable first layer of warmth and comfort when they step outside into the cold. Our range of Mountain Designs kids' thermals (or long johns as they're sometimes called) are designed to deliver just that, coming in Merino Blend and Polypro fabrications in a variety of colours and children's sizing.

How can you choose the right thermals for your child?

Kids' thermal underwear is a must-have on cold-weather family adventures to ensure the littlest loved ones stay warm and safe. The best kids' thermals will, most importantly, regulate core body temperature so when the conditions outside become cooler, heat gets trapped inside the garment and the wearer stays comfortable. They will also be moisture-wicking and quick-drying, helping to manage perspiration away from the skin and garment itself. Both the Merino Blend and Polypro styles in our kids' thermals range deliver these benefits so the selection will come down to personal preference between the hand-feel of each, and price.

What sizes of kids' thermals can you choose from at Mountain Designs?

Both fabrications in our kids' thermal wear range are designed as a unisex style. The Merino Blend features thermal tops and thermal pants in sizes ranging from 4 to 16, while the Polypro thermal underwear, again in thermal tops and thermal pants, comes in sizes 2 to 16. There is also a variety of colours to choose from.

What materials are kids' thermals made of?

Our kids' thermals range is available in two performance fabrics, Merino Blend and Polypro. Both styles provide thermal regulation to ensure warmth and comfort in cold weather conditions, and are lightweight and durable. They are also moisture-wicking and quick-drying, helping to manage perspiration away from the skin surface and off the garment so there is no damp or stuffy feeling during activity.

What are the warmest kids' thermals?

Both the Merino Blend and Polypro fabrics in our kids' thermals range will keep kids warm in cool conditions but the Merino wool in the blend style provides a number of natural benefits that give it superior performance. The fibres of the Merino wool are excellent for thermal regulation, trapping body heat against the skin to maintain warmth in cold climates. It is also moisture-wicking and quick-drying, removing perspiration away from the skin and reducing the cooling effect caused by moisture evaporation. It retains its shape due to the elasticity of the fibres, is highly breathable, and resists odour and bacterial build-up to help keep a feeling of freshness.

What kids' thermal socks are available?

Mountain Designs does not currently range kids' thermal socks.

Are kids' thermal tops and pants quick-drying?

The Merino Blend and Polypro fabrics in our kids' thermals range are both quick-drying, making them comfortable to wear in all cool-climate conditions. Children's clothing should be easy to care for, given the wear and tear that kids put it through, so our quick-drying kids' thermals are also a great choice because of how easy they are to maintain.
