Product Care Instructions - Packs

Taking care of your pack is super important - after all, it does store and protect all of your gear while you're on the move. Mountain Designs recommends the following care instructions:

Cleaning Your Pack

• Remove all your gear from the pack, and then shake out any loose dirt.
• Scrub the pack down using a soft-bristled brush and a mild liquid detergent with warm water. For stubborn stains, let the pack soak in warm water with a mild liquid detergent for a few hours, before scrubbing the stains. Do not use bleach, fabric softener, conditioners or stain removers as they can affect the pack's performance.
• Rinse thoroughly to ensure all detergent is removed.
• Hang your pack in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Do not use a direct heat source (such as fire), as this might damage the fabrics even without catching fire.
• Do not tumble dry, dry clean or iron your pack.

Cleaning Your Pack (removing mould)

• Mould can occur if you store the pack when it is still wet.
• To remove mould start by soaking your pack in warm water with a diluted solution of antiseptic or a specialised mould remover.
• Gently scrub the pack with a soft-bristled brush. You may need to use a lot of elbow grease to remove the mould.
• Rinse the pack until it is clean. White vinegar may be added to the rinse water as it helps to prevent the return of mould.

Waterproofing Your Pack

• Canvas and nylon packs can be water repellent. However, water may still be able to seep through seams or zippers in a heavy downpour.
• Water Repellent Product: To improve the water proofness of the fabric, apply a water repellent product.
• Pack Cover: Pack covers are like a shower cap for your pack. They have an elastic hem that hugs the outside of the pack and keeps it dry.
• Pack Liner: A pack liner is simply a large bag that acts as an internal shield/extra waterproof barrier to keep your gear dry inside.
• Dry Bags: Dry bags are similar to a pack liner, a dry bag will keep your items dry and protected.

Storing Your Pack

• Store your pack in a cool, dry place away from pests that could get inside. Ensure it is completely dry before you store it. An ideal storage solution is inside a cardboard box with air holes in a well-ventilated place.
• If you live in a humid climate, we recommend storing your pack with silica or a similar product to manage moisture.
• Avoid storing near concrete as the moisture and chemicals in concrete can damage the fabrics.

General Tips & Notes

• When your pack gets dirty or wet, clean and dry it as soon as possible after use to avoid mould, stains and odours from building up.
